FINISHED BIRD CAGE STAND

Hello all, hope your having a good night so far. As promised, I have the pictures of the bird cage stand I built totally finished with cage installed. I have to thank my friend Mike for the great paint job he done on it. He used a textured spray paint giving it an unique sand stone like finish. Everyone is happy with the results and it looks real nice. The scroll sawed parakeet on the door really makes this piece a one of a kind. I also have to give a thanks out to Joe Martinez for the parakeet pattern. I had to make some changes to the original pattern, I had to delete the branch and flowers so I could fit the pattern on the door. I'm sure Joe would understand.

Well, I've been really busy at my job the last couple weeks and been working a lot of hours. I haven't been able to get out to the workshop much this week, but I do have some stuff that needs a little finishing yet and I'll get them posted soon. Till then, have a good night and talk to you soon!

WICCA ART

Hello everyone, hope your week is going well so far for you. Here is a project I did for an artist friend of mine. The circle and moons are made of a piece of popular that I happened upon at Home depot. It has a purple hue in the grain and turns to a greenish color. I liked the grain so much I just put a couple of coats of urethane on it. I cut the star with a scroll saw and hand carved to make it look like a celtic knot. I contoured the moons on a sander as I would do for intarsia. I would like to do some celtic knot work for the scroll saw. I do have a few patterns to chose from, I just need the time to do it.

BIRD CAGE STAND

Hello all,
Well, it's been a busy week and I finally got my big project done. These pictures are taken as it's being painted. As soon as the project is completely finished with bird cage installed, I'll take more pictures. The customer was very pleased with the scrolled parakeet I did for the door. I think it makes it unique for the project. I don't normally take on projects like this, but it's for a good friend and I couldn't say no.

I have started a couple little projects and hope to have them done soon for posting. I'm trying my hand at building a custom frame for one of my new scroll projects, so hang in there for that one.

It's been awhile since I posted and thought I'd fill you in on what's been happening. I have a big project that needs to be finished and need to get it done soon! I do have some cool scroll art ready to be cut as soon as I get the chance. I also have a new intarsia project lined up just after that. SOFTWARE

Hello everyone,
Hope your having a good day so far. I was surfing the net last night and found an interesting program for scollers. It's called coyote stencil, and it seems to be very nice for a $90.00 program. It says you can take a digital picture and make it a fret pattern. Also you can make it a intarsia pattern. Check this link out if your interested and if there is anyone reading today that has this program, could you give the rest of us some input on it.

FRET WORK

Hello everyone,
I finally was able to finish up a couple projects today. I tried my hand at some fret work albeit easy ones. I think it went pretty well and I used some different wood than you would normally would. The Phoenix was made out of a piece of scrap maple that had some unusual grain pattern. Then I thought that it looked good with a red back ground.

The other is a tribal scorpion that was cut out of Paduk. This wood was a little different to cut. When I was done cutting , it was like I ate a whole bag of Cheese puffs. The saw dust was a fine, orange looking. I used a backer that was a naturally dark wood. I'm not too sure what it was, but it was very nice to cut. I used tung oil to finish the maple, paduk and the other dark wood to give it a natural look. The grain on the paduk is beautiful and I'm not too sure if the picture gives it any justice.

Happy belated 4th

Hello everyone,
Hope everybody had a nice and safe 4th of July. I just got back from vacationing in northern Michigan for the last 4 days. All I did was relax and take in the peace and quite. I didn't get a chance to do any scrolling or any kind of woodworking so I'm itching to get back at it tomorrow. I have a few items I need to finish so I can post them on the blog for all to see. Well it's great to be back and hope to have some finished projects up on the board in the next couple days.

As you can see I just started my blog and I had a few people ask if I sell my work. The answer is Yes, that's why I started the blog. The blog lets me post pictures of the projects I do so if you see something that is of interest contact me and let me know.

Most these people, such as Kathy Wise, Judy Gale Roberts and Garnet Hall sell patterns for their intarsia and I will order them if there is something you would like from their site. ROSE IN THE BEGINING STAGE

Hello everyone
I thought I let you see one of my projects in the beginning stages. I cut the pieces for this rose out of a unique piece of popular I found while walking through Home Depot. The wood has a purple color which I thought was weird for this piece. I'm getting ready to start fitting the pieces tighter and then I will begin to start shaping them to give it a 3-d type appearance. Hopefully I can get it done soon so you can see the finish project.

This pattern is taken from Garnet Hall's first book. It's the best rose pattern I have seen so far. Nice work Mr. Hall!!!

SHAMROCK

This intarsia is a proto-type I did of a shamrock. Didn't come out to bad. It's pretty basic but I have a few people who are intrested in it though. What do you think?

FLOWER INTARSIA

My first words for my blog

Hello fellow woodworkers and welcome to my site. I have to first give a thanks out to Steve Good who gave me the inspiration to even start a blog. If it wasn't for him and his great website I may not have known all about blogging. Also Steve is a very good scrollsaw artist who really likes to help out when he can by posting great videos on how to use coral draw to design projects and videos on how he goes about doing his projects. Of course the best thing about Steve is he lets you use all his patterns for free. I list Steve on my favorite sites at scrollsawworkshop. Please visit his site, you will not be disappointed.

I also have to give thanks to some great Intarsia artists out there who has inspired me to actually do some projects. Judy Gale Roberts is the master along with her husband Jerry Booher. Together they have some great videos on how to get started, along with some great patterns.

Kathy Wise who is also a great artist in her own right, has some great patterns also. Her jaguar jungle mural is breath taking. Please check that out, you'll be in awe.

Lucille Crabtree was the first book I read about Intarsia called "Basic Intarsia" and that's where I got the pattern of the bear that is pictured on the blog. The bear is my first project completed and it's hanging on my grandson's room.

Garnet Hall is another Intarsia artist that resides in our great neighboring country Canada. He also is very good and he now has 3 books out. Get a chance to check them out, you will not be disappointed. He has some good beginner patterns to get you started.

I also like to do small projects for people, like as of this writing, I'm building a bird cage stand for a young woman in the neighborhood. I will put pictures up as soon as I figure out how this site works.

Some day I would like to work with wood full time as my own boss. I get a lot of people telling me it's impossible to get going in this art. I can see it being difficult, but not impossible. I'm going to keep plugging away at it and I hope with this blog, I will meet new friends who are in the business and willing to exchange ideas and a little business savvy to us beginners.
